The theme for this year – Designing our future: debate, develop, deliver, allows us to explore innovative design for our future, whether that be in physical library spaces, through technology, through the services we offer or our professional role.

Sessions & Talks

We have plenary sessions covering our future working relationships, the future of student services, and a panel session debating emerging skills and future roles in the legal sector.

The parallel sessions will allow delegates to consider Designing our future further by considering our working environments, how technology does and will play a part in that environment, and experiences on how libraries have been redesigned.

We have lightning talks covering BIALL’s move to the cloud, current awareness, telling a story in infographics, changing jurisdictions, cost savings through intelligent legal technology, and BIALL in Sierra Leone.

Exhibition

The Exhibition is where you can meet and chat with a wide range of exhibitors, eager to share with you their latest developments, innovations, and products relevant for the legal information community. It is an excellent opportunity to catch up with your suppliers and meet new ones, so don’t forget to pack your business cards. Whilst you are heading around the Exhibition, why not also complete this year’s Cadbury chocolate themed passport game and be entered into a prize draw?

During the lunch breaks on Thursday and Friday a number of product demonstrations will be taking place for you to get more in-depth updates from featured companies.

Networking

The busy conference days spent in the Exhibition and sessions are once again accompanied by two
evening events to allow you to relax and network further with colleagues.

Thursday night sees a fun
evening taking place in the Hilton Metropole with a series of interactive games and friendly competitions.
Food and drinks will complete the evening.

Friday evening allows us to celebrate BIALL members at
the President’s Reception, followed by the Annual Dinner that sees the presentation of the BIALL and
Lexis Library awards. The formal Annual Dinner is sponsored by LexisNexis and will allow you to get
your “glad rags” on and congratulate the well deserving award winners.

Keynote
Speaker

Our Keynote speaker this year is the recipient of the British Council’s Winston Churchill Fellowship in 2015 through which she researched design and use of libraries. She is Dr Gemma John, founder of the spatial strategy consultancy Human City. Gemma has worked alongside architects to help them understand the behaviour of potential occupants so buildings are designed to support the needs of these occupants.

BIALL is intrigued to hear what insights she has on the topic of library design.
