The LexisLibrary Awards (formerly The Halsbury’s Awards) have been actively recognising and celebrating the dedicated performance and outstanding service given by teams managing legal collections and resources since 2007. They replaced the BIALL Awards for Excellence which ran in 2005 and 2006.

2007 marked the centenary of Halsbury’s Laws of England, the definitive authority of the law of England and Wales.  BIALL and LexisNexis chose to celebrate the centenary by establishing these awards in association with BIALL for the Best Legal Information Services in the UK and Ireland.  The inaugural presentations were made at a special event held at The Inner Temple on 16th October 2007.

There are 3 categories:

  • Best Legal Information Service outside of London (Commercial sector)
  • Best Legal Information Service London only (Commercial sector)
  • Best Legal Information Service (Non-commercial sector)

Last year’s winner at Dublin was The Bar Library Belfast;  the runner up was The Law Society of Ireland Library, and Highly Commended was the Research and Information Unit at the Legal Aid Board.  You can find out more about their success (and those from previous years) via the BIALL awards page.

There is no reason why you can’t nominate your own team – this is an ideal opportunity to utilise all that great feedback you might have been gathering internally. Imagine what an impact that nice shiny trophy might have within your own organisation – an easy way to demonstrate your value.

Equally though, you might wish to circulate the survey within your organisation for colleagues to vote for you.

Whichever approach you opt for – get going! The Awards and Bursaries Committee will be welcoming nominations for 2017 via surveymonkey until 19th May.
