Reflecting the thoughts and deliberations of the Adjudication Panel for this award, BIALL President Sandra Smyth said:

The aim of the BIALL Supplier of the Year award is to reward outstanding best practice by a supplier or a publisher in the field of legal information. The recipient of the award is decided by aggregating the views of BIALL members responding to an annual survey, which means it tries to represent the views of the membership regarding which companies are providing a high quality service.

In this context, it is always pleasing when representatives of suppliers contact the Supplier Liaison Group asking if they can be included in the survey, as it shows that they want to engage with BIALL and the broader membership and seek feedback on how they are performing. This year’s winner of the award is one of the newer companies, being included in the survey for the first time in 2016. They edged out by a very small margin the suppliers that won the award in 2016 and 2015.

Customers of the award winner describe them as extremely professional, knowledgeable and customer-focussed. They are considered very responsive to customer feedback and suggestions, which is especially positive for a relatively new service, and they are also described as extremely pleasant to deal with.

The winner of the BIALL Supplier of the Year award for 2017 is CRO Info.

The Customer Relations Initiative Award was established in 2005 by BIALL’s Legal Information Group (LIG). From 2007 it became the responsibility of the Awards & Bursaries Committee and in 2010 it was relaunched as the BIALL Supplier of the Year Award.


The aim of the award is to reward outstanding best practice by a supplier or a publisher in the field of legal information by:

  • Recognising and rewarding excellence and innovation in customer relations
  • Promoting awareness of how customer relations initiatives can benefit information professionals and suppliers alike
  • Encouraging high quality communication
  • Promoting best practice.

The BIALL Supplier of the Year Award is presented annually and the winners receive a certificate. The winning supplier / publisher may use the specially designed logo on their web-site in recognition of their achievements. The award is presented at the BIALL Annual Dinner which takes place at the Annual Conference.


The adjudication process is based on the annual BIALL Supplier Survey, which BIALL members complete in the Spring. The results of this survey are used to identify those suppliers rated most highly by members.
