We are pleased to announce that the BIALL Legal Foundations Course is being run for the eighth time in 2017/2018. This is an online course delivered in conjunction with the University of Westminster, which provides a grounding in legal concepts for librarians and information workers with at least one year of experience in a law environment.

The Legal Foundations Course is not a course on how to conduct legal research, but rather a way of getting to grips with the terminology used in the legal profession, providing you with a better understanding of the law in England and Wales and how it has been applied in a variety of subject areas.

Online lectures are released each week and students will need to complete online activities to pass the course and receive a certificate.

The Legal Foundations Course fees for the 2017/18 are:

  •  £505 for members of BIALL (including corporate members)
  • £555 for non-members.
  • There is also an early bird rate of £480 for applications before Monday 28 August. To apply or for more information, visit the training page. The deadline for applications is Friday 15 September.

BIALL Bursaries are available for this course. Details on how to apply for can be found under the Other Bursaries section on the bursaries page.
